ABOUT

Hi! I'm Loo Han.

I believe we all have an innate desire to create, not just consume. Artists paint, musicians sing, architects design, authors write. Even the so called ‘non-creative’ jobs are creating solutions, convenience and value every single day. It’s a form of self-expression and also a form of contribution. It’s a piece of who we are and yet it’s also decidedly not us.

byloohan.com is the answer to my desire to create. I’ve always loved writing, even as a kid. I remember making my own cut, paste & write magazine. I remember writing short stories after being inspired by a book. I also remember making a game book ala R.L Stine.

As I grew older, I enjoyed dabbling with videos, posters, website design and of course learning experiences – and I still do! I think you’ll see my many interests reflected in the articles on this site. But one thing that has always captured my imagination was writing.

I do think I’m quite blessed with words (not so much with music or painting, which I’ve tried!), but it’s not always easy. In fact, each article is more like a puzzle. There’s a certain theme or message I’d like to bring out – maybe from my own experiences, something I consumed or something current. From then on, it’s a co-creation process with the Universe. I research, I reflect, I edit.

There are many times that I’ve been stuck too! And I literally brainstorm a whole list of ideas before settling on one. I know not every article will be a hit with everyone (or sometimes, even anyone). And that’s OK. It’s a fact I chose to make peace with in the beginning.

I decided to write first and foremost for myself. Not that I don’t care about the readers – I do! But what I’ve found is that I need an intrinsic reason to keep writing, even when no one reads, likes or comments. It’s my way of expressing myself and keeping myself sane. It’s also a way for me to learn more about myself – and trust me, it’s a lot.

Do I make money from this? Nope, not at this moment at least. Everything comes from my own pocket. I do hope that this will change someday. There are after all costs to maintain the servers and domain. But more than that, it’s also a dream to be able to be paid just for being me and sharing my creation with the world.

Why the name byloohan.com? Well, cause the name loohan.com was already taken. I did consider other fancy names (like leadx.com to talk about leadership). However, at the end of the day, I couldn’t be sure that I will always write about the same topic. So, the safest bet was to have my name in there. That way, I have the absolute freedom to write (and create) just about anything that interests me – who knows, I may create podcasts & videos too. It’s also a nice nod to blogging/writing, like This Post is Written by loohan. Get it? 😉

Why do I always encourage people to comment? For 3 reasons. The first: to help Google index my website, making my work easier to be found by others. The second: it gives me great joy and fulfillment to see how my work has impacted others. The third: I believe learning goes multiple ways. Readers are not just learning from me, I’m also learning from readers and readers are also learning from other readers. So, do your part and comment!

Copyright stuff? I try to use copyright-free pictures and materials wherever I can. I also try to quote my sources as best as I can (I’m not and I don’t want to write a thesis!). What that means, is I may sometime overlook proper citation or use of copyrighted materials. I apologise in advance if that is the case. Drop me an email at loohan@byloohan.com and I’ll remove it promptly. On the other hand, if you see an article or a picture on this site that you like, feel free to use it or cite it. If you’d like, drop a link back to the article so people can find my work. That’d be much appreciated!

How can you support this site? Quite simply, engage with it. Like it on my social media, comment, start a discussion on the blog and of course share with with your own circle and network. Sign up for my newsletter to receive thought-provoking ideas and exclusive updates. I rely totally on organic reach as I don’t have the capacity to run ads or marketing campaigns for the near future.

As always, thank you for reading, thank you for supporting my work and thank you for being you! ❤️
